Activity 3 1-20-11 Gases

Tube of gases in different colors defraction glasses

Bright orange lightNeon- spectrum of colors.  A bar of lines all around like a star and in different colors.  There are more lines in the color spectra than Helium. very Bright

white light Helium-  The color has fewer lines than Neon.  The lines of color are more spaced than in neon. The colors were in vertical lines with spaces in between them.  Not as bright.

purple Argon-A bar of color lines that are more purpleish and bluish.  The lines are light in the brightness almost like an irredecent.  Then the lights were shut off and I went up close and the colors were more vivid.

Light purple Nitrogen-  the lines go in a star pattern.  The brightness is softer than neon and helium and very close to Carbon dioxide.  I can see all the colors of the rainbow. In the color spectrum the lines are wider and close together.

Carbon dioxide - The brightness is softer.  I see lots of greens and yellows. The lines are very thin.

Hydrogen
Line spectrum shows which gasses you would see.  For example if you look at your blood you would be able to tell what is in it or what is not by the line spectrum.  Each atom is different because of the different electrons.
